FLEXIBLE LEARNING UNIT
The Flexible Learning Unit is the Discipline's link with its off-campus students. This unit looks after the administration of off-campus programs, produces and distributes off-campus course materials and is generally the first point of contact for all off-campus students. The Discipline of Nursing is committed to increasing accessibility of clinical education for practising nurses by providing a number of its programs via flexible learning mode. The offering of Flexible Learning programs is indicative of our readiness to provide higher education opportunities in nursing for a broad spectrum of students. Teaching that relies on flexible learning methods is an approach which dissolves artificial boundaries between on and off campus (internal and external) study. The adoption of this approach enables the Discipline to enrol full and part-time Australian and International students into awards that were previously restricted to on-campus students. The use of study guides, online learning, both synchronous and asynchronous, enables academic staff to support off-campus students through a diverse array of teaching and learning strategies. Off-campus learning has become the method of choice for many people who wish to further their education without disrupting their career or other commitments. It has also become highly interactive and cost effective. The Flexible Learning Unit is constantly seeking opportunities to further the clinical education of nurses whether they are in Australia or anywhere else in the world. Among our off-campus students we have students in remote parts of Australia and we have students in major Australian cities. We have Australian students in other countries studying by distance. We have international students studying on-campus in Australia and we have international students studying our courses in their own country.
